Practical Techniques for Working with Clients with Anxiety

About this course

This course will help you skillfully and confidently work with your most anxious clients. We will explore ways to talk about anxiety disorders, understand symptoms and diagnosis, use the Cognitive Model of anxiety, as well as conventional and evidence based integrative treatment modalities and interventions. You will also learn some strategies to help clients down-regulate their nervous system. The interactive format will include demonstrations, case examples and opportunities to practice your new clinical skills. You will leave with concrete strategies you can apply immediately with your clients! Handout included. Please note: participants will be watching a recorded video.

Learning Objectives

  • 1. define two concepts associated with anxiety disorders.
  • 2. differentiate stress, worry, anxiety, and trauma.
  • 3. explain the diagnostic criteria for GAD and Adjustment Disorder presented in the DSM-5, as well as trauma and common differential diagnoses.
  • 4. able to apply 3 evidence based clinical interventions for anxiety disorders that help down regulate the nervous system.
  • 5. identify cognitive model of anxiety and how it can inform treatment interventions for anxiety disorders.

  • Erena DiGonis, LCSW-R

    Erena DiGonis, LCSW-R is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Health Coach, and Certified Clinical Anxiety and Trauma Treatment Professional. Erena has twenty-one years of practical and professional experience as an active clinician, teacher, and supervisor. She has worked in a variety of community, psychiatric, in-home, and private practice settings with hundreds of complex cases. Erena is a sought-after writer, speaker, and consultant and has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Psychology Today, Reader’s Digest, Women's Health, and MEL magazine. She has reviewed book proposals for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). She is also an Advisory Board Member for the CPTSD Foundation.
