Antisemitism and its Impact on Countertransference- An Interactive Workshop

CE Hours 2 1 Cultural Competency 1 Ethics

About this live event

This interactive workshop delves into the complex interplay between antisemitism and countertransference in therapeutic and clinical settings. Participants will explore how antisemitic attitudes, both overt and covert, can influence the emotional responses and biases of therapists toward their clients. Through a combination of lectures, group discussions, and experiential exercises, the workshop aims to: - Define and Understand Antisemitism: Provide a comprehensive overview of antisemitism, including its historical roots, contemporary manifestations, and its impact on individuals and communities. - Examine Countertransference: Introduce the concept of countertransference, detailing how therapists’ personal experiences, biases, and emotions can affect their professional relationships and therapeutic efficacy. - Identify Antisemitic Biases in Therapy: Discuss common scenarios where antisemitic biases may arise within the therapeutic context, influencing the therapist's feelings, attitudes, and behaviors toward Jewish clients. - Develop Strategies for Awareness and Mitigation: Equip participants with practical tools and strategies to recognize and address their own potential antisemitic biases, ensuring they can provide a more supportive and effective therapeutic environment for their clients. - Promote Cultural Competence and Sensitivity: Foster a deeper understanding and respect for Jewish culture, traditions, and experiences, thereby enhancing the cultural competence of therapists. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a greater awareness of how antisemitism can subtly and overtly influence their countertransference reactions, and they will be better prepared to manage these influences in their clinical practice. This course is essential for mental health professionals committed to providing equitable and culturally sensitive care. Please note that the class time is Eastern. Recording: This class will be recorded and made available within 2 hours after the live lecture. Recordings are available for 90 days after the class.
