The session begins with a concise introduction to Jews and Judaism so clinicians can gain a basic cultural competence when working with Jewish clientele. Course that examines the intricate facets of antisemitism and its profound influence on individuals and communities. Explore the historical landscape of antisemitism, from its origins to its evolution, as we delve into its impact on mental health. This segment sheds light on the clinical implications of antisemitism, highlighting the psychological toll and challenges faced by those affected. Participants will then learn about the Jewish experience of intergenerational trauma, and how it is transmitted through the generations. Transitioning to the realm of trauma, the course provides an in-depth understanding of trauma's definition, types, and enduring effects. Concluding the course, we introduce the GUARD system, a comprehensive framework for trauma treatment. The session concludes with a 15-minute Q & A, offering participants the opportunity to engage with the material, seek clarification, and contribute to a meaningful discussion.

  • Identify what is Jewish Trauma, the effects of intergenerational trauma and antisemitism and how it impacts the Jewish clients from a clinical perspective.
  • Understand the different types of trauma and its impact on the mind and body.

  • Malka Shaw, LCSW

    Malka's extensive experience and expertise in the field of mental health for the past 25 years make her a highly qualified professional with a diverse skill set. Her journey from working in various agency and non-profit settings to running a successful private practice showcases her adaptability and capability to address a wide range of mental health concerns.

    Her specialization in women's issues, particularly in maternal wellness, anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and EMDR, reflects a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding these areas. Her ability to work with individuals and couples while focusing on life transitions demonstrates a holistic approach to mental health care.

  • Robyn Sheiniuk, LCSW

    Robyn Sheiniuk, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker who is currently licensed in CA and FL. She has focused her 29-year career on working with trauma. First, as a clinician in LA, working with underserved children and families in both outpatient settings and residential treatment facilities. She has worked as a Clinician, Clinical Supervisor as well as a Clinical Director both in CA and NJ in outpatient and residential settings. For the last 10 years, she has focused on her private practice, serving veterans and clients working on complex, chronic trauma, and acute trauma, in addition to working with clients on grief and loss and cancer-related issues. She is trained in TF-CBT and certified in EMDR. She also has extensive training in psychodynamic therapy and attended a training program at LAIPS, one of LA's psychoanalytic institutes. She currently sees clients in CA and FL via telehealth as well as providing ongoing supervision to both licensed and unlicensed therapists.

Each professional is responsible for the individual requirements as stipulated by his/her licensing agency. Please contact your individual licensing board/regulatory agency to review continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. ASWB ACE credit is only offered for Live, Online (synchronous distance learning) training.

ASWB ACE credit is NOT approved for self-study courses.

ASWB ACE credit is approved for the United States and Canada.*

Canadian Social Workers: Canadian provinces accept courses approved by the ASWB for ongoing professional development.

*New Jersey regulations state the following regarding acceptable sources of continuing education for Social Workers: "Attendance at programs or courses approved by boards that license social work practice in other states: one credit for each hour of attendance." Many State Boards accept ASWB ACE credit for Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Addiction Professionals. It is the participant's responsibility to check with their individual state board to verify continuing education requirements for their state.
