Navigating Trauma: GUARD System Techniques for Addressing Symptoms from Antisemitism and Prolonged Stress

CE Hours 3 1 Cultural Competency 2 Clinical

About this live event

This course offers an in-depth exploration of trauma, focusing on the different types and their distinct impacts on individuals. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the nature of active trauma, particularly within the context of the Jewish community during the current rise in antisemitism. Participants will gain insights into how traumatic events are affecting Jewish clients; both vicariously and directly. The course will delve into the psychological and emotional processes involved in experiencing trauma and how it can impact identity without proper intervention. A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to the concept of resilience, an essential component in the healing process. Participants will learn about the factors that contribute to building resilience in clients facing trauma, with practical approaches to support their development. This includes recognizing and nurturing clients' inherent strengths and helping them build new coping mechanisms. The course will present evidence-based strategies to foster resilience, offering mental health professionals valuable tools to enhance their therapeutic practices. Practical skills are a core focus of this course. Attendees will develop assessment skills to accurately identify and evaluate the impact of trauma on their clients. Strategies for active listening will be covered to improve communication and create a safe therapeutic environment. Additionally, the course will provide training on delivering psychoeducation, helping clients understand their experiences and empowering them with knowledge. Grounding exercises, which are vital in managing trauma symptoms and promoting stability, will be thoroughly discussed and practiced. By the end of this course, mental health professionals will be equipped with a robust toolkit to support clients experiencing active trauma.. This course is designed to enhance the competency and confidence of practitioners, enabling them to provide compassionate and informed care to those in need. The complication lies in that we can not establish permanent safety; but in how to still build client resilience to ensure better outcomes. Handout Included. Recording: This class will be recorded and made available within 2 hours after the live lecture. Recordings are available for 90 days after the class.
