Learning Objectives

  • identify the Four Noble Truths: suffering, its cause, its cessation, and the path leading to its cessation.
  • recognize at least two of the steps: Right Understanding, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.
  • examine the five components that constitute human experience: form (physical body), sensation (feelings), perception (recognition), mental formations (thoughts, attitudes), and consciousness (awareness).
  • evaluate how mindfulness is central to Buddhist practice. Participants will learn how mindfulness involves maintaining awareness of the present moment for observing thoughts and feelings without attachment, which helps in reducing suffering and increasing emotional regulation.
  • consider how Karma refers to the law of moral causation where intentional actions influence future experiences.
  • discover different forms of meditation, including Vipassana (insight) and Samatha (calming), are used to cultivate mental clarity, concentration, and insight into the nature of reality and the mind.
  • apply essential qualities of loving-kindness meditation, promoting emotional resilience and positive relationships.
